Quick Release for Decatur Murder Accomplice

Chase N. Freeman was sentenced to 4½ years for his role in concealing the homicide of 41-year-old Norma J. Crutchfield in Decatur, but was released the same day due to time served and credits. Despite not participating in the dismemberment, Freeman helped move Crutchfield’s body and later disposed of her remains in his trash, leading to a loss of evidence in the Macon County landfill. Troy D. Slaw, the perpetrator of the murder, was sentenced to 28 years after taking a plea deal. Freeman’s testimony was crucial in charging Slaw, and he is set to be discharged from parole in February 2025.

Thousands of Illinoisans start their day with Daily Decatur

“Reading the newsletter has become a really positive daily habit for me. I read it while drinking my coffee and planning the day. It saves me a ton of time, but it's really enjoyable too. It's great to have the news filtered down to just a handful of critical events everyday that actually matters to me. I also like reading the community profiles. They interview people locally like teachers, politicians, and small business owners. It's hard to find this anywhere else.”

“I'm a senior citizen here in Decatur, and this newsletter is like a lifeline. I don't have the attention span these days to read the paper, and Facebook is a mess. This newsletter keeps me informed, without taking the whole day from me.”

“I like how this newsletter keeps me connected with our community. It's great to have a dedicated source that focuses on what's going on locally. So many news companies are focused on huge attention-grabbing national headlines. But, besides the entertainment value, it's not really relevant to my day-to-day. Also it's great the newsletter is free.”

“This newsletter has been a game-changer for my business. It not only highlights local news but also features small businesses like mine. It's a great platform for local exposure.”

“I'm a parent, and it's apparent how busy that makes me. I LOVE newspapers (especially the smell), but I never have time to read it anymore. So thank god this newsletter exists, and I can read it in a few minutes. If anything is really critical or catches my eye, I can always spend more time reading into each piece of news, but it isn't usually necessary.”
