COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Macon County Continuum of Care hosts a free breakfast on Friday, March 27 at The Salvation Army, 229 W. Main Street — a community event where the latest homelessness data will be presented and an Advocate of the Year announced. Reservations must be made by March 20.  Now Decatur
  • Macon County Continuum of Care is hosting a free Community Breakfast at The Salvation Army (229 W. Main Street) on March 27 at 8:00 a.m. It will highlight the 2026 Point-in-Time Count on homelessness and honor the Advocate of the Year; reservations are due by noon on March 20.  Decatur Tribune
  • GFWC Decatur Woman’s Club will meet on Thursday, March 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Coz’s Pizza Restaurant in Mt. Zion (featuring Leslie Morrow from New Hope Animal Outreach and celebrating March birthdays).   • On March 2, 2026, Dr. Juanita Morris joined Byers + Co to preview the Community Public Safety Academy in a podcast that outlined the program's local safety focus. The release detailed how the academy will support community protection measures.  Now Decatur

  • Yesterday, Kevin Breheny joined Byers & Co to preview Soy City Buzz on First Mid Monday while discussing a new Paul McCartney documentary, Operation Enduring Support, sports, and local elections.  Now Decatur
  • The St. Patrick's Day Parade will be led by a new generation as Kate Pletsch takes over following her father Jim Wrigley's passing, with Vickey Wrigley serving as Grand Marshal. The parade begins at 11 a.m. March 14, with a celebration at the Knights of Columbus Hall & 520 East North Street.  WAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Decatur Public Schools introduced Nicole Moody as the new superintendent today at the district headquarters (local educators shared their support for her vision for academic improvements).  Herald & Review
  • Millikin University will host its second Celebration of Storytelling Conference on Thursday, March 26, from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the University Commons (featuring keynote sessions, interactive lectures and workshops) for high school, community college and Millikin students.   • Decatur Public Schools' incoming superintendent Nicole Moody is set to begin her role soon (her first day as the district's leader) as she prepares to address challenges and support student success.  Herald & Review

  • A forum on small business challenges and opportunities will be held on Monday, March 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the 1st floor Madden Auditorium in the Decatur Public Library, where local business owners and residents are invited to share their views as part of the Council Connections series.  Decatur Tribune
