COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Decatur Park District Board of Commissioners approved a $10.3 million activity center near Scovill Park West Activity Center on W Main Street to offer mature adults spaces for exercise, games, and socializing. Construction will begin in May and finish in summer (targeting 2027).  WAND
  • Scovill Zoo in Decatur said its 23-year-old zebra Fluffy and its 18-year-old miniature zebu bull Eli died over the winter (Fluffy was euthanized in November after battling equine Cushing’s disease and Eli passed from age-related issues).  WAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • Millikin University will host a film music day at Kirkland Fine Arts Center on Friday, March 27. The 4:00 p.m. concert features soundtracks from Tolkien films and the 8:00 p.m. show highlights Hans Zimmer’s work with the Hollywood Film Orchestra.  Decatur Tribune
  • Byers & Co released a podcast on March 20 that recalls Olivia Newton-John’s 2006 visit to Decatur, letting locals hear memorable moments from her visit.  Now Decatur

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Decatur will conduct a prescribed burn at 6705 Angle Crossing Road in Oakley between March 23 and March 24. Trained professionals will safely burn invasive species to lower wildfire risk while ensuring smoke does not affect nearby homes — local authorities have been notified and action depends on weather.  Decatur Tribune
