🏘️ Community
The Heart of Illinois Community Foundation is accepting nominations for the Do Something Great Awards until May 23—this annual program honors Macon County residents in seven award categories.
The awards ceremony will be held on July 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Millikin University.
The 5th Annual United Way Food Truck Frenzy — presented by First Mid Bank & Trust — will return to Fairview Park on April 26th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will feature nine local food trucks and activities for kids while benefiting the United Way of Decatur and Mid Illinois.
🚨 Crime
A Decatur woman, Currie-Willis, who was charged with murder in the robbery killing of Cameron Taylor received 30 months probation for obstruction of justice on Wednesday after prosecutors said they lacked evidence that she lured the victim to her home (her 136-day jail sentence was canceled with credit for time served).
🎓 Education
Registration opened on April 3 for 2025 summer camps at Rock Springs Conservation Area for children ages 1 to 15, offering hands-on outdoor lessons in nature and history.
Camps include various sessions—Earth Adventures, Adventure Club, History Camp, X-Treme Camp, and Mini Camp—each with set days, activities, and fees, and spots are limited.
🌲 Environment
Severe storms on Wednesday brought heavy winds, damaged roofs and trees, and left over 7,000 customers without power before most services came back on Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service sent crews to survey damage in Clark, Cumberland, and Effingham counties—no injuries were reported.
