COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Cars and Coffee 2026 series — a local car enthusiast event — will kick off on April 11 at 661 East Wood Street to benefit the Macon County Animal Shelter; upcoming stops on May 2, May 9, and June 13 will support other local causes.  Now Decatur
  • Millikin University will host Milli-Fest (a free event for all ages) on April 17 and 18, featuring campus games, food trucks, and an outdoor screening of Monsters University on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., with a vendor market, inflatables, and family games Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Now Decatur
  • Local agencies in Macon County launched a 100-Day Challenge to prevent homelessness before it begins. The program organized by the Macon County Continuum of Care with state help began March 9 and will run through mid-June to support 60 households, mostly families with children.  WAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials approved a three-year revitalization plan today to boost economic growth and neighborhood well-being; they will work with 1,000 businesses annually, increase grant funding for infrastructure, and target housing improvements (including demolishing 10 houses) to help residents thrive.  Fox Illinois

  • On Monday, Apr. 6, Dr. Juanita Morris joined Byers & Co to discuss healthcare career pathways and how the Jerry J. Dawson Civic Leadership Institute is launching programs to help local citizens advance their careers. The podcast is available online.  Now Decatur
  • Decatur Memorial Hospital is hosting the Mindful Miles Walking Challenge kickoff on April 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. along its walking trail — residents can register, get giveaways, and join a monthlong challenge that offers a free T-shirt for logging 50 miles.  Now Decatur
