ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Around 10 a.m. on Sunday a structure fire near Ridge Road and S. 70th St in Macon County led to a person being found dead as deputies and state police responded at the request of the Long Creek Fire Department—Sergeant Woods is asking anyone with more details to call 217-424-0867.  WCIA
  • More than 100 people gathered on Saturday at his mother's house to remember Noah Edwards — a Decatur child fatally hit by a car on Thursday — and they honored him with green balloons, gifts, a school bus tribute, and support through a GoFundMe, as his family coped with the loss.  WCIA
  • Deputies were called at 10 a.m. Sunday to the 8000 block of Ridge Road east of Decatur—where Long Creek Fire Department responded to a reported fire and found a body—and the Macon County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death.  WAND

CRIME NEWS

  • Decatur police responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound on April 12 in the 1200 block of N. Church Street, where they found a 34-year-old resident who was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital and later died—detectives are investigating and no arrests have been made.  ABC 20
  • Decatur police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday night near N. Church St + W. Leafland Ave, where officers arrived at 8:50 p.m. and found a 34-year-old man who later died in the hospital as evidence is being processed and witnesses interviewed.  WCIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Illinois Extension is warning cat owners about bird flu as the USDA confirmed H5N1 in cats in more than 20 states. Virologist Leyi Wang said cats can catch the virus from raw milk, raw food or contact with infected birds—owners should watch for symptoms and keep pets away from wild animals.  WCIA
