  • On April 20, the Decatur Family YMCA earned Praesidium Accreditation for meeting strict abuse prevention standards for youth and vulnerable adults—this certification shows its commitment to keeping programs safe in Macon County.  Now Decatur
  • St. John's Lutheran Church will host a blood drive at 2727 North Union Blvd. on April 29 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. while D1 Naz will run a drive at 1177 W. Hickory Point Rd. on April 23 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; donors (at least 17 years old or 16 with parental permission and over 110 pounds) will receive a gift card, bonus points, or a charity donation.  Now Decatur

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday evening, a house fire near E. Decatur Street and S. Stone St. left two people displaced — firefighters rescued one occupant who was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to a nearby hospital — while the American Red Cross provided help as the fire’s cause is under investigation.  WAND
  • Firefighters and a police officer rescued a person from a house fire on East Decatur Street in Decatur—officials say the individual escaped safely.  Herald & Review

  • Police responded to a call near Church and Division at 3:30 p.m.—one person was transported by ambulance as officers maintained a heavy presence on Church Street while details are still emerging.  WAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • A live performance called 'That's What She Said' will feature eight female speakers sharing personal stories that shaped the Macon County community; the event will take place this Friday, April 25th at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Square Theater & proceeds will support the She Gave Women's Giving Circle with $25,000 in grants awarded at the event.  Now Decatur

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scholarship applications for the Decatur Memorial Foundation and Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary opened April 20 and will close May 2 for high school seniors and undergraduates pursuing careers in healthcare or agriculture. The program offers two $5,000 agriculture scholarships, three $5,000 healthcare support scholarships, and two nursing awards of $5,000 and $2,500—students must apply by the deadline.  Now Decatur

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Decatur council will vote today on an ordinance to keep a 1% grocery tax that earns about $2 million yearly—this comes after Gov. Pritzker signed a 2024 law removing the state grocery tax while allowing local governments to impose their own.  Herald & Review
