  • Community leaders, advocates, and neighbors will gather on May 1st at Fairview Park in Decatur for the MAYDAY! MAYDAY! Rally for Clarity and Justice from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to demand action on issues including veterans' rights, union labor, autism research, and youth support (weather permitting).  Decatur Tribune
  • The 5th Annual United Way Food Truck Frenzy, presented by First Mid Bank & Trust, will return to Fairview Park on April 26th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until the trucks sell out. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Six firefighters from the Decatur Fire Department were honored for their life-saving efforts during a February 7 apartment fire at an S Church St. complex—Truck 1 rescued four occupants from a third-floor window while Engine 1 located an unresponsive victim who received medical care from AMR.  WCIA
  • On February 7, the Decatur Fire Department rescued five people from an apartment blaze on S Church Street—firefighters used a ladder to save four occupants from a third-floor window and found an unresponsive victim who survived after receiving initial care.  Fox Illinois

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pilot held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 22 in Decatur at its travel center—installed with the country’s first B99 biodiesel retail offering for trucking fleets—and partners including ADM, Optimus Technologies, the Illinois Soy Association and the American Lung Association joined the event to celebrate sustainable fuel goals. The Decatur site is now in operation while Pilot will launch a Des Moines station this spring and a Dallas location this summer.  Decatur Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested 31-year-old Reginald Pritchett for the shooting of Herman Jones on April 12 after evidence showed he tried to wash away evidence by showering with alcohol—detectives later recovered a 9mm handgun linked to his actions.  WAND

  • Decatur City Manager Tim Gleason announced that Brad Allen, a longtime Decatur Police Department member, will start as chief on May 10 — he replaces retired Chief Shane Brandel. Allen, a Decatur native and MacArthur High School graduate who has served since 1998, was most recently Deputy Chief of Administrative Operations.  Decatur Tribune
  • Brad Allen is set to become Decatur police chief on May 10 as he replaces retiring Shane Brandel. A 27-year veteran with deep ties to the community, Allen will begin hiring 10 new officers next week & aims for full staffing by early 2026.  Herald & Review
