COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Decatur’s Scovill Zoo welcomed two new mountain lion siblings—Russet and Yukon, both eight years old—on April 28; they were orphaned as cubs in Idaho in 2017 and previously lived at Elmwood Park Zoo and the St. Louis Zoo. Visitors can now see the lions and learn about mountain lion conservation as the animals adjust to their new home.  WCIA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, June 28, the Macon County Conservation Foundation will host its first 'Wine in the Wild' event at Woodbine Farm (outside Dalton City) starting at 5 p.m. with drinks, dinner, live music, games, and an auction to raise funds, and it was rescheduled from June 14 so the community can fully support the Spurlock family after a tragic accident last winter.  Now Decatur

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois High-Speed Railway Commission — with help from IDOT — is hosting its first virtual event from April 28 to May 11 to present a study on a rail corridor from Chicago to St. Louis that would serve cities including Decatur. Residents can view a pre-recorded presentation, check exhibits, and take a survey in Spanish on the project website.  ABC 20
