- ➤ Decatur police arrested 21-year-old Lebran M. James after he was found with multiple gunshot wounds near Oakland Avenue and Main Street in connection with an Easter shooting — they are still searching for a second shooter. WAND

- ➤ The Governor Richard J. Oglesby Mansion and Museum at 421 West William Street in Decatur will host an Open House on Saturday, May 17th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.—volunteer docents will lead tours and visitors may view authentic clothing from the Governor’s family while donations support the mansion’s upkeep. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois Senate passed a bill banning disposable food containers made in whole or part of polystyrene foam and the proposal now goes to the House for a vote. If approved, the measure will take effect on January 1st — 2030 and does not affect products made for sale out of state. WCIA
- ➤ Decatur City Council faces uncertainty over its role in Heritage Behavioral Health Center’s planned move to the Northgate Mall site next to St. Teresa High School as concerns over safety and zoning arise; city staff had previously indicated no special zoning was needed. The mayor and council members now await expert input and are reviewing alternative locations while a court hearing on St. Teresa’s injunction is set for May 14—officials say more details are needed before taking further action—leaving the issue unresolved.
