  • Residents in Decatur are invited to HSHS Home Care’s butterfly release ceremony honoring loved ones with name readings and a symbolic butterfly release. The event will occur Tuesday, May 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the Cancer Center Garden at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital and is free; butterfly reservations are ($15).  Now Decatur

  • The 19th Annual Illinois Product Farmers Market begins this week at The Shed on the Illinois State Fairgrounds—showcasing fresh produce, artisanal goods, food trucks and live music—with cooking demonstrations highlighting local flavors; it runs every Thursday through Sept. 24, except Aug. 13, 20 and 27.  Decatur Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • History of the Heartland released a commemorative coin celebrating Millikin University's 125th anniversary (featuring Shilling Hall) as part of Historic Preservation Week. Free coins will be given to the first 20 event attendees on May 16 and May 17.  Now Decatur
  • Grammy-nominated Danny Gokey will perform Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center on the Millikin University campus, as part of the Artist Series. Tickets range from $30 to $40 with discounts for children, seniors, veterans and students.  Now Decatur
  • Theory of a Deadman and Sevendust will deliver a major rock show at the Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater on August 19 (tickets go on sale Friday, May 8 at 10 a.m.). ECONOMY NEWS

  • Diesel fuel prices surged to over $6 per gallon when a Pilot station — just off Interstate 72 — charged $6.09 on Tuesday morning. This increase in fuel costs could raise operating expenses for local truckers and may push prices higher for consumers.  WAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Kwame Raoul expressed approval as a federal court announced plans to approve a $700 million settlement against Google today. The deal will include direct payments to eligible consumers and policy changes to boost competition in the app marketplace.  Decatur Radio
