BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fuyao Glass announced a major expansion at the Decatur Regional Chamber's State of the Community luncheon; the company will build a new state-of-the-art facility — adjacent to its Mt. Zion plant — that is expected to add over 200 jobs and construction contractor positions.  ABC 20
  • Ameren held its annual Lineman Rodeo today at its Decatur facility, where linemen competed in safety and speed events—vital to prepare for emergencies and qualify for the International Lineman’s Rodeo.  WAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 15, 2026, Ashley Grayned of DPS 61, Andy Hynds of Richland Community College, and graduates discussed Prep Academy’s dual high school and college credit program during a podcast hosted by Byers + Co.  Now Decatur
  • Decatur Public Schools will graduate the class of 2026 this weekend. MacArthur will hold its ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday and Eisenhower will begin at 2:30 p.m. with doors opening an hour early (clear bag rules apply).  WAND
  • Millikin University will hold its commencement tomorrow, May 17, celebrating this year's graduates in a formal ceremony. The event marks a milestone as students complete their studies.  Herald & Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois lawmakers passed a bill that lets schools store asthma medication in secure spots like gyms and practice fields, and it now heads to Gov. Pritzker’s desk for review. The measure aims to help student athletes access life-saving rescue medication quickly.  WAND

  • The Macon County Mental Health Board will host Social Project at the Decatur Civic Center on Thursday, June 11 from 3-7 p.m. The free event offers food, prizes and signups for group hangouts, local activities and community experiences.  WAND
