Good morning, Decatur.

Kelsey Washburn organized a memorial baseball tournament in Forsyth Park to honor fallen officer Chris Oberheim, who died in the line of duty on May 19.

Riley Upperman sang the national anthem — a role that honored her close ties with the Oberheim family — while police officers and community members gathered to support his memory.

Proponents are pushing a bill to let Revolutionary Racing build a one-mile harness track and casino called Decatur Downs on a 200-acre site at the northwest corner of U.S. 36 and Wyckles Road—if approved, the project will invest $150 million and could add up to $27 million in taxes while opening by the end of 2026. State Sen. Patrick Joyce leads the push as negotiations continue in the Senate committee.

The City of Decatur will assist property owners with cleaning up storm tree debris starting Tuesday, May 27.

Property owners must call 217-875-4820 by Friday, May 23 and have debris cut to no longer than eight feet placed at the curb by Monday, May 26.
