- ➤ Decatur saw Civil War veterans establish the Grand Army of the Republic in 1866 — a group that later set the stage for naming Memorial Day on May 30. The organization grew to 90,000 members and helped elect five presidents before dissolving in 1956. WAND
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Senate Education Committee has advanced SB 3070, which would let high school students replace their two-year foreign language requirement with Career Technical Education classes starting with the class of 2028 (a change aimed at aligning skills with workforce needs). - ➤ ADM held its 2026 summer intern orientation in Decatur where over 120 students gathered to learn about the company’s leadership, culture, and volunteer efforts. The interns will start assignments at 39 ADM locations across North America soon. Now Decatur
