COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Brandon Sheppard and Children’s Miracle Network Ambassador Jase Hendricks joined at Club Car Wash to raise money for St. John’s Children’s Hospital, inviting families to see his race car. The event also announced that $1 from each Tuesday VIP Wash purchase will benefit the hospital.  Now Decatur
  • The Village of Forsyth announced plans to renovate the Veterans Memorial at 740 W. Forsyth Parkway to preserve its legacy and create space for ceremonies — local residents can support the project by purchasing commemorative bricks by July 1 with sponsorship opportunities before the Veterans Day ceremony on November 11.  Now Decatur
  • Decatur community leaders are hosting a gun safety lock box giveaway Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon at OKOCC to teach safe storage methods while providing a brief safety course and free food.   • After a cold winter, Decatur food trucks reopened for summer along Pershing Road as operators face rising costs in food, gas & insurance; one owner noted a 20 percent increase in produce prices.  WAND

  • Decatur Public Schools ended its before- and after-school programs due to budget cuts and is seeking a new after-school vendor (Champions is the leading option for state-subsidized care for low-income families) with a contract set for board review in the coming weeks.  WAND

  • Yesterday, Dale Colee joined Byers & Co to preview Pharmacy Facts with Friends and update on Blue Cross Blue Shield network coverage and House Resolution 0746, which aims to help independent pharmacists serve the community.  Now Decatur
  • Decatur leaders are urging lawmakers to pass a bill by Sunday to develop a privately funded horse racing track casino in Macon County. The project may create up to 300 jobs and generate $27 million in tax revenue — with features like grandstands, sports complex, retail, restaurants, and lodging.  WAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pools opened for summer and water safety experts urged families to watch children and secure pool areas after Memorial Day weekend. The American Red Cross said 85% of people can swim but only 56% can perform basic water skills (a gap that increases risk) so parents must stay alert.  Fox Illinois
