- ➤ A 72-year-old man from Teutopolis died Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash when his pickup truck went off Moccasin Road, hit a utility pole and overturned in rural Effingham County—authorities said responders found him at about 9:30 a.m. and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning. - ➤ State Senator Doris Turner is launching her annual Summer Book Club to help local students stay engaged during summer break as they must read eight books and return their form to one of her Springfield, Decatur or Capitol offices by Aug. 15—each child who finishes will receive a gift card and certificate. - ➤ A bill that would require public schools to offer mental health screenings for grades 3 through 12 has reached the Governor’s desk. If signed, Senate Bill 1560 will give schools free state-provided screening tools with an effective date in 2027—some educators express concern over the associated costs. ABC 20
