CRIME NEWS

  • A 17-year-old boy was sentenced to 40 years in prison for fatally shooting 20-year-old Janiah Thomas—a pregnant woman—and killing her unborn child on March 8th in Decatur.  WAND
  • A man and a woman were found dead inside a Forsyth home Monday morning around 10 a.m. when deputies responded to a welfare check call (from the Macon County Sheriff's Office) and detectives say there is no danger to the community.  WAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Decatur Municipal Band will hold a free family concert in Central Park on June 16 at 7pm and host activities for kids starting at 6pm—story reading by READiculous and a sing-along led by Iris Leahy. The band will perform Disney film music with vocal soloist Zach Garrett and conductor Jim Culbertson—costume contests and character interactions will add to the festive atmosphere.  Now Decatur

  • Average gasoline prices in Illinois fell by 5.2 cents to $3.34 per gallon today as GasBuddy's survey of 4,378 stations shows prices are 2.2 cents lower than last month and 54.3 cents lower than last year—prices ranged from $2.81 to $4.49 per gallon.  ABC 20

  • State Senator Doris Turner is hosting a Summer Book Club to help keep students reading during summer break — each student must choose eight books and return the form by Aug. 15 at her Springfield, Decatur or Capitol office to receive a gift card and certificate.  Now Decatur

  • Decatur City Council approved a micro-transit service that works like a rideshare app to fill gaps when buses or ride-hailing options are lacking, and the service will soft launch in July with a broader rollout planned for the fall—officials say it will offer curb-to-curb rides from early morning until evening.  WAND
