  • On Tuesday, June 24, Splash Cove water park in Decatur—open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.—hosted large crowds as summer heat drove families to enjoy water slides and mini-golf. Employees said visitors increased after 5 p.m.—a sign that the heat was pushing more people outdoors—while staff urged everyone to stay hydrated.  Herald & Review
  • Scovill Zoo will host its annual Ice Cream Safari on July 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.—presented by Tillamook Ice Cream, the event features several ice cream stations and animal meet-and-greets while tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for children ages 2 to 12, $9 for seniors, and free entry for children 1 and under.  Now Decatur

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Champaign County Coroner Laurie Brauer named three individuals who died in a motor vehicle crash near Ludlow on Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.—two Paxton drivers were pronounced dead at the scene and a Ludlow passenger later died at Carle Hospital with autopsies scheduled as investigators probe the incident.  Fox Illinois

  • Matthew Flaten and Dr. Mark Tonelli from Millikin University joined Byers & Co yesterday to discuss Dr. Tonelli's second Fulbright U.S. Scholarship Award and his project recording original musical compositions inspired by his trips to Brazil.  Now Decatur
  • Today the Decatur school board approved a new three-year contract with the Decatur Educational Support Personnel Association—finalizing support staff terms—and the agreement will guide personnel work for the upcoming school years.  Herald & Review
