- ➤ The Decatur Public Library will hold a block party to mark its 150th Anniversary on August 2 with live music, free children's activities and community partners including Scovill's Mobile Zoo and the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois. - ➤ A Decatur man, Morgan Russell, 60, was arraigned on three counts of aggravated battery Tuesday after allegedly stabbing a 54-year-old man at the Sundown Lounge on North 22nd Street just after 11 p.m. Sunday—police said surveillance showed him leaving with a woman in a truck found at her house and that he was denied pre-trial release with a follow-up court hearing set for July 30. - ➤ The Forsyth-based nonprofit Sunshine Supplies is hosting a back-to-school supply drive for teachers on July 18th in Forsyth Park from 4 to 8 p.m. & it will hold a registration event at its store on July 19th from 8 to 11 a.m. so educators can access free monthly shopping for supplies with a $50 annual membership. - ➤ Nearly two dozen nursing homes and care facilities in Central Illinois were fined by the IDPH for breaking state and federal rules, with Decatur’s Fair Havens Senior Living among those fined. The agency received 243 reports from January to March and handed fines up to $50,000—one case involved a failure to provide emergency care that led to a resident’s death. WCIA
