  • A Macon County village in Mt. Zion honored Jack Brinkoetter, a fifth grade student who died earlier this year in a sledding accident, by unveiling a scoreboard at the junior football league field on Wednesday—where coaches, players and family gathered for the dedication.  WCIA

CRIME NEWS

  • Decatur police continued their search for a suspect who shot a 21-year-old man at Old King's Orchard Community Center on Thursday around 11 a.m., recovering seven shell casings and learning from witnesses that the suspect was a black male wearing dark clothing and carrying a backpack who fled on foot to the west.  WAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Decatur Civic Center parking lot solar canopy is now operational — it generates clean energy that will supply 95% of the center’s electricity for the next 15 years and save taxpayers $120,000 a year. The $5 million project was fully funded, built, and is maintained by the contractor while similar solar projects at the Public Library and Pump Station are being planned.  Fox Illinois
