- ➤ Firefighters responded to a suspicious blaze at a home on 1245 E. Prairie Ave. late Thursday night, arriving at 10:21 p.m.—crews used multiple attack lines and vertical ventilation to control heavy flames while no occupants were home and the cause remains under investigation. Fox Illinois
- ➤ Firefighters responded to a suspicious house fire in Decatur on Thursday night at the 1200 block of E. Prairie Ave at 10:21 p.m.—crews controlled the heavy blaze over four hours with rotating teams due to extreme temperatures while investigating the cause. WAND

- ➤ On July 14, Decatur police arrested a 34 year old man named Michaelangelo L Douglas after he held a woman at gunpoint, forced her into a vehicle, and fired shots in her direction—he was denied pretrial release and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 13. WAND

- ➤ Montessori teachers piloted Feeding Futures last year to mix farm learning into classroom lessons and help students learn cooking and growing skills. - ➤ Millikin University's new president Dean Pribbenow spent his first month meeting local leaders and exploring plans to make the university a true community partner—he said institutions must serve as part of the community.
