- ➤ The Old King's Orchard Community Center is hosting Project Prevent Violence—a two-day workshop with self defense, de-escalation and law enforcement classes after a shooting outside its building less than two weeks ago. Additional classes such as mixed-martial arts and first aid will continue on Sunday to promote safe, positive community interactions. WCIA
- ➤ Pastor Phillip Cole of Elim House Soup Kitchen is holding a fundraiser to keep his kitchen open until the end of the year as it serves 75 to 100 people a night on four limited days. He plans to use the funds for a new roof and higher electric bills so no Decatur resident goes to sleep hungry. WCIA

- ➤ A U.S. House subcommittee held its first field hearing at the Chez Veteran’s Center on UI campus in Urbana to address healthcare barriers for rural veterans — many of whom face long drives to VA clinics.
