- ➤ Decatur Public Schools will begin classes on August 13 and require all students to be registered before the first day to get their class schedules and bus details. The district updated policies on cell phone use and offensive odors (such as the smell of marijuana) and will offer mental health services through a new partnership with Cartwheel while enforcing vaccination deadlines. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Work is underway to replace the old Staley boat launch ramp across the street from the Country Club in Decatur, and the ramp will be closed until November. The new ramp is longer with a reduced slope — designed to prevent boats with trailers from falling off, with about $325,000 in costs mostly funded by the Staley Family Foundation while the city later updates the boat launches at Nelson Park.
