  • On August 18, Phil Romano and Kevin Breheny joined Byers & Co to discuss how Romano Company supported the WSOY Community Food Drive—showcasing the firm's commitment to helping local families.  Now Decatur

  • A farm and brewing family from Champaign County created a custom can for their American Lager for the Farm Progress Show coming next week in Decatur. The lager takes six weeks to brew and will be on tap at the show's hospitality tent — it is also sold at local retailers — and shows their strong ties to local agriculture.  WAND

CRIME NEWS

  • Decatur police rescued a 5-month-old pit bull-mix puppy that was left tied to a drain gate during heavy rain at a Shell station on North Wyckles Road, cutting its four-foot rope as it struggled in knee-high water and arresting its owner Michael Thompson—a paroled drug dealer—on charges of animal cruelty and parole violations.  Herald & Review

  • The Decatur Police Department is joining a statewide Labor Day campaign to stop impaired driving and enforce seat belt laws from August 15 to early morning on September 2—officers will patrol the streets to keep residents safe. Sgt Steve Hagemeyer said drivers must plan ahead by using a designated driver and following traffic rules.  Now Decatur
  • Illinois governor Pritzker signed a bill that will pay landowners if carbon capture construction damages crops, trees, fences or livestock. The law takes effect on Jan. 1 — a shift lawmakers say strengthens protections for property owners.  WAND
  • On August 18, 2025, Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe joined Byers and Co to discuss a large community meeting, the City Council agenda, upcoming community forums, Farm Progress and the WSOY Community Food Drive—she said the discussion highlighted plans for local government and community participation.  Now Decatur
