  • Local unions held a Labor Day parade today in Decatur to honor the victories that improved worker rights. Union leaders and parade participants celebrated contributions from diverse trades—such as teachers, pipefitters, and firefighters—that secured paid vacations and medical leave.  WAND

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Decatur Fire Department responded to a fire at 642 S. Jackson Street on Saturday evening when neighbors reported smoke and a trapped child—firefighters rescued a 3-year-old who later died and the cause is now under investigation.  Fox Illinois

CRIME NEWS

  • A Decatur teacher charged last month in an operation to fight human trafficking in the Forsyth area died—McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder confirmed the death of Thad Olson of Bloomington and said his cause of death has not been released.  Decatur Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Decatur Moves is launching Sept. 8 as a new microtransit service that connects riders to fixed-route buses, work, school and appointments with fares of $2 within Decatur, Forsyth and Mount Zion and $5 elsewhere in Macon County. Riders booking through the app until Oct. 8 using promo code FREE5 can get five free rides—an offer designed to fill gaps in local transit.  Herald & Review
