- ➤ Rivian plans to reduce its global workforce by about 1.5% as it reshuffles its commercial team — a move to prepare for production of its new electric SUV in Normal. A company spokesperson said affected workers remain eligible for rehire and will be encouraged to apply for other open positions while the firm prepares for the upcoming R2. Herald & Review
- ➤ The Powerball jackpot sits at an estimated 1.7 billion after no one won Wednesday — the Marathon gas station off Pershing Road in Decatur has seen busy ticket sales as locals try their luck. The next drawing will take place Saturday night after 10 p.m. WAND

- ➤ Tracy Cunningham died on Labor Day after being shot in the 1700 block of North Church Street—police are investigating the fatal incident. Decatur Radio

- ➤ Dr. Karen Lauritzen, a DPS 61 board member, joined Byers & Co on September 5 to discuss her background in education and her new board duties—her remarks were featured on a podcast. Now Decatur
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Records from the Economic Development Department and village of Forsyth show that more than 30 building permits have been approved for projects in Decatur and Forsyth — projects include roof replacements, fence installations, solar panel setups, demolitions and new home construction. The permits have costs ranging from $1,000 to as high as $300,000. Herald & Review
- ➤ Illinois passed a law to ban companies from listing, advertising, promoting— or selling restaurant reservations without a written agreement with restaurants. The law takes effect Jan. 1 and will fine violators up to $1,000 per case while allowing customers to sue for fraudulent listings. WAND
- ➤ William Charles Construction will close both eastbound & westbound lanes on Faries Parkway at the bridge from 8:00 p.m. Monday to 5:00 a.m. Friday, September 19 for work on the south half of the bridge; traffic will shift to newly paved southern lanes at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday as the detour plan remains in effect with one lane open each direction during the day.
