COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, car enthusiasts, students and community members gathered at Richland Community College for a Cars and Coffee event that raised funds for the upcoming 2-mile Operation Obstacle Course race—supporting veteran suicide prevention—and featured classic, modern and custom vehicles with free coffee and donuts. Local organizers also offered tours of the autobody department to highlight current projects and provide information about the program.  Now Decatur
  • The CONO meeting will be held on September 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Madden Room at Decatur Public Library—residents can share neighborhood ideas and learn about the October 3 WSOY community food drive.  Now Decatur
  • Decatur will host several community blood drives in partnership with ImpactLife, with events scheduled at Decatur Christian Schools on September 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Montessori Academy of Peace on September 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital on September 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and at One Gary K. Anderson Plaza on September 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donors must be at least 17 (or 16 with parental permission) and weigh over 110 pounds, and a photo I.D. is required to donate.  Now Decatur
  • The Northeast Community Fund will host its 7th annual Farm to Fund dinner—set for Saturday, September 27th on Merchant Street in downtown Decatur. The event will feature a community meal prepared by Richland Community College’s Bistro 537 students along with an auction and live entertainment.  Now Decatur

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Decatur man and his dog were displaced when a kitchen fire last night on the 4500 block of East Lakewood Avenue required firefighters to quickly put out the flames with limited damage—investigators are still working to determine the cause.  WAND

  • Decatur city launched Decatur Moves microtransit service in Macon County today. Riders can use promo code FREE5 in the Decatur Moves app for five free rides (offer valid until October 8) as the service connects work, school, and shopping from downtown to rural areas.  Now Decatur
