EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Shores Elementary principal Kristi Mullinix joined Byers & Co on September 12th to discuss her career and upcoming retirement — she also shared her views on the school district's future and noted a recent open house featuring a book vending machine.  Now Decatur
  • MacArthur High School said that middle school students must be accompanied by an adult at its 7 p.m. football game Friday night — a rule prompted by three previous incidents — and drop-offs alone are not allowed.  WAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governors in Arizona, Illinois, Maine and North Carolina signed orders Friday to let pharmacies give COVID-19 vaccines without an individual prescription—this change aims to ease access as federal guidelines now limit vaccine eligibility. The orders take effect immediately even though some pharmacies may need time to stock the vaccines.  WAND
  • The Decatur Fire Department warns residents to avoid burning outdoors because extremely dry conditions could spark fast-moving fires — it will monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.  WAND
