COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, hundreds of community members volunteer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church to pack meals for starving children. The group will pack tens of thousands of meals over two days—using locally grown soy—and aims to help feed children around the globe.  WAND
  • Angela Foulke of the Decatur Family YMCA joined Byers & Co on September 19th to discuss the Livestrong program & her Illini fandom, photography and a busy weekend in Decatur.  Now Decatur

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Sept. 18, ADM leaders talked about how carbon capture can help the economy at a luncheon at Millikin University while protestors outside worried about safety from leaks beneath Lake Decatur—an issue raised after a 2024 leak. The company will add new injection wells, build a clean energy plant opening in 2030, and start a project to turn captured carbon into useful products by the end of 2026.  Herald & Review

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Macon County Conservation District will host a native seed collecting event on October 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Friends Creek Conservation Area—volunteers will gather wildflower seeds to restore prairie habitats, and equipment will be provided.  WAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Macon County Health Department will host a free car seat check event during Child Passenger Safety Week on September 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—technicians will help parents select the correct seat and show proper installation.  WAND

SPORTS NEWS

  • On September 19th, DPS Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Bryson Taylor and Tyler Allen—along with committee chair Greg Collingwood—joined Byers and Co for a podcast discussing the class of 2025 and highlighting the inductees’ achievements.  Now Decatur
