COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On September 30, 2025, Fleet Feet’s Kyle May joined Byers and Co live from the Macon County Farm Bureau to discuss the recent WSOY Food Drive fundraiser and upcoming fall hikes and run events—highlighting a focus on local community efforts.  Now Decatur
  • God’s Shelter of Love will host the Blue Jean Ball on October 9 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church—this event will support services for women and children in crisis. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is served at 6:00 p.m., with free entry by RSVP.  Now Decatur
  • Hunters Feeding Illinois began its fourth season on September 30—fighting food insecurity by linking hunters with food pantries in 50 counties. The program will continue limited operations into early 2026 with leftover funds as donated deer are turned into meals.  Now Decatur

  • On September 30, Byers & Co stopped at the Macon County Farm Bureau as part of the Century Tour and held a live discussion about their education programs and the Ag in the Classroom initiative with Farm Bureau representatives Tim Stock and Jennifer Fink.  Now Decatur

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sen. Doris Turner secured over $227,000 on September 30 to fund four literacy programs in Springfield and Decatur — the money will boost libraries and community education for adults and children.  Now Decatur

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local law enforcement and Farm Bureaus urged drivers to slow down and be alert on rural roads as harvest season began on September 30, warning that slow-moving farm equipment and unsafe passing may lead to more accidents. Motorists are told to allow extra travel time and keep a safe distance—steps that will help keep roads safe through early November.  Now Decatur
  • On September 30, 2025, Jerry Costello, Director of the Illinois Department of Ag, joined Byers & Co at the Macon County Farm Bureau to discuss the Illinois Grain Tour, which began on September 29 and will run until October 2 while welcoming international buyers from six countries (China, Vietnam, Egypt, Jordan, Singapore and Mauritius) to help increase export sales of Illinois crops.  Now Decatur
  • State Rep. Brad Halbrook introduced a resolution last week to designate September 12 as 'The Day of the Bible' in Illinois and said it would spur schools + community organizations to hold educational and cultural programs highlighting the Bible's role in our heritage.  WAND
