  • Decatur’s Rock Springs Nature Center will host TreatTrail on October 18th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Families are encouraged to wear costumes, bring treat bags, and sign up online by October 15, with admission at $5 per treat collector and $2 per guest — warm apple cider and cookies will be served after the trail.  Now Decatur
  • Yesterday, Clay Gerhard from the Decatur Park District previewed fall programs for children during an interview with Byers and Company that covered activities at the DISC, Halloween Glow Golf, and a new bicycle skills course in Fairview Park.  Now Decatur
  • The WSOY Community Food Drive will take place tomorrow at Kroger in Airport Plaza from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shoppers must use the back entrance on East Maryland Avenue while donors, mobile order pickups, and pharmacy drive-through customers use the entrance off Airport Plaza Drive (the area has one-way traffic for safety) to help local food pantries and schools win prizes.  Now Decatur
  • Yesterday, Tanya Andricks from Byers & Co discussed Millikin University, the prescription produce program at Crossing Healthcare, and her job transition in a podcast addressing community food insecurity — highlighting local efforts to improve food access.  Now Decatur
  • Decatur resident Tina Cunningham, 52, has been walking the MacArthur High School track to stay healthy on her cancer journey—neighbors have joined her to offer support. Her ongoing effort shows the strength of community during her treatment.  Herald & Review

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Executives from around the globe gathered yesterday at TCCI's Global Headquarters in Decatur for a tree planting—a company tradition celebrating the opening of a new building built with REV Illinois funds. The event also highlighted TCCI's global reach with facilities in China, India, Argentina and Germany.  WAND

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ameren Illinois lowered its electricity prices by over 30% for non-summer periods on October 1—customers are expected to see lower bills as a result.  WAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state announced Wednesday its largest multi-year program—allocating $50.6 billion over six years—to fix roads, bridges and transit across Illinois, including projects in Decatur. The plan will invest billions in local and statewide transportation upgrades while helping to create jobs.  WAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • Memorial Health Hospitals are offering free mammograms this October for women aged 40 and older who are uninsured or underinsured—appointments are required and educational materials will be provided.  WAND
