  • Local jurisdictions in Macon County reinstated a temporary burn ban on October 6 due to prolonged dry conditions and a high wildfire risk; residents outside Decatur must avoid open burning while the city follows its regular ordinance—local fire departments can help with questions.  Now Decatur
  • Decatur leaders tabled a vote on the Love, Learning and Laughter daycare center contract amid rising construction costs of over $1.5 million—staff will meet today to discuss financial details before a formal vote on Oct.20.  WAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital will hold a pet blessing event on Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Cancer Care Center, 1990 E. Lake Shore Dr.—Father Amal Roche will lead the ceremony while pet owners will keep their animals on a leash and clean up after them.  Now Decatur
  • Kroger has recalled Basil Pesto Bowtie Salad and Smoked Mozzarella Penne Salad sold in Illinois and other states because pasta ingredients from Nate’s Fine Foods may be contaminated with Listeria. The company removed the products from over 1,860 stores (across multiple banners) and advised customers to return them for a full refund, and no reports of illness have been received.  WAND
