EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On October 16, the Children’s Museum of Illinois partnered with Millikin University to launch ChemGirls and ChemKids, one-day camps where fifth to eighth graders learn chemistry through hands-on experiments with colors, dyes and lab tools. The final session will be held tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Millikin’s Leighty-Tabor Science Center — providing a practical introduction to science. Now Decatur
- ➤ Decatur Public Schools and Richland Community College celebrated the graduation of 25 students from their dual enrollment program that lets high schoolers earn a diploma and an associate degree at the same time. Richland reported each graduate saved about $26,000 in tuition and the institutions will soon expand the program to more local high schools—bringing more college credit opportunities to students. - ➤ Over $668,000 is being granted to 80 agriculture literacy coalitions in 89 counties to fund the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom program that gives teachers tools for farming lessons — the money comes from individuals and the IAA Foundation. Decatur Radio

- ➤ HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital is hosting Think Pink: A Women’s Health Event on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Hostetler in downtown Decatur. - ➤ The Macon County Health Department will host Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage Plan open enrollment events on October 22nd, November 5th, November 19th and December 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as part of Medicare open enrollment running from October 15th through December 7th. Residents must schedule an appointment and bring their Medicare cards and a list of medications — trained counselors will assist in reviewing plan options — to secure cost-effective coverage.
