CULTURE NEWS

  • Decatur Community Dance will present its stage adaptation of The Nutcracker Ballet from December 5 to December 7 at Richland Community College’s Shilling Auditorium (the shows are at 7:00 p.m. on December 5, 4:00 p.m. on December 6, and 2:00 p.m. on December 7) as tickets go on sale November 1 with prices ranging from $5 to $15.  Now Decatur

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders approved an ordinance Monday night, allocating $400k to renovate the former Wee Folks building into a 24-hour daycare center called Love, Learning and Laughter. Additional repairs above the allocated cost will be paid by new owner Cheri Johnson before the city issues a certificate of occupancy and sells the facility for $10.  WAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • SIU Medicine will open a new multi-specialty clinic in Decatur—several departments including Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and a redesigned Pediatrics floor will move to Physicians Plaza West by October 27; additional surgical specialties will relocate in spring while Otolaryngology and Family Medicine remain at their current location.  WAND
  • Sarah Bush Lincoln announced plans to expand its Regional Cancer Center by adding about 15,000 square feet to its 22,000-square-foot facility. The expansion will be partly funded through the Expanding Hope campaign (more details pending) (project in planning).  Herald & Review
