  • On October 28th, 2025, Shirley Stanley of the Decatur & Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation and Baylie Garrett of Hickory Point Bank joined Byers & Co to preview Whiskers & Tails—discussing how bank employees serve on community boards.  Now Decatur
  • The Macon County Continuum of Care and Dove-Homeward Bound will host a free guided tour called Walk the Walk on Wednesday, November 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m. — the event will let community members learn about homelessness challenges in Decatur — with RSVPs required by November 7.  Now Decatur
  • Natalie Beck of the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation announced a $25K gift to the Decatur Park District to support the Trees on the Tees sponsorship — Clay Gerhard and Byers & Co explained the donation details on October 28th.  Now Decatur

  • Culver's is ending its first-ever Curdtoberfest as November nears and starting a new Cheese & Mac dish that has tender pasta in a creamy Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese Sauce topped with shredded cheddar (available nationwide from November 3 until December 28).  WAND

  • Mount Zion High School will hold a Veterans Day assembly at 10 a.m. (Monday, Nov. 10) and invites local veterans to attend the event.  Herald & Review

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalists will host a free Pumpkin Smash event on Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at the old pool site in Fairview Park in Decatur—residents are asked to remove non-acrylic parts from their pumpkins so they can be composted instead of sent to landfills.  Now Decatur

SPORTS NEWS

  • Decatur Park District will host a Turkey Trot at Fairview Park on November 22 with a half mile Tot Trot starting at 8:30 a.m. for children and 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon races beginning at 9:00 a.m.—fees are $25 for the Tot Trot and $35 for the other races. Children will get a T-shirt and prizes, and those who register by November 2 will receive a guaranteed long-sleeved shirt—late registration is available online through November 14.  Now Decatur
  • Kyle May of Fleet Feet spoke at Byers and Co on October 28 to share details of his recent gravel bike race, upcoming holiday themed runs, and new seasonal apparel and shoes—offering fresh plans for the season.  Now Decatur
