The Macon County Master Gardeners will host an open house on November 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Children's Auditorium at the Decatur Public Library—130 N.
Franklin St—where visitors can learn new gardening techniques. Workshops will cover houseplant propagation, growing microgreens, and winter seed sowing for those looking to start or improve their gardens.
The Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce will host an annual Veterans Day breakfast for veterans and their guests on November 11 at 7 a.m. at Antioch Christian Church on E.
US Route 36 in Decatur — the event will honor veterans with a keynote from retired Army National Guard Company First Sergeant Jimmy Rade and feature the Macon County Honor Guard and a roll call of armed services with a complimentary breakfast.

ADM and Super6 Carbon signed a non-binding memorandum on November 3 to produce carbon removal credits by storing CO₂ at ADM’s carbon capture site in Decatur.
The deal lets ADM expand its carbon management business—paving the way for industrial-scale carbon removal.

Millikin University’s School of Music invites the community to experience its free Faculty Recital Series at 4 p.m. in Kaeuper Hall on Sunday, November 16, February 22, and April 19—featuring piano, trumpet, and vocal recitals by faculty including Dr. Jun Hong 'Ivan' Jiang, Dr. Chun Kong 'Apollo' Lee, and Prof. Emily Venturella with special guest Felipe Hoyos-González.

On November 3, IHDA announced $15 million in grants to 34 local governments and nonprofits for the Home Repair and Accessibility Program, with Decatur receiving $400,000 to help around 400 homeowners statewide.
Eligible homeowners with single-family homes must meet income and mortgage requirements to get up to $50,000 for repairs—improving safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency.
Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs announced on November 3 that he committed $50 million to fund zero-interest and low-interest loans for unpaid federal workers affected by the government shutdown—loans will be made through participating banks and credit unions.
The program aims to help nearly 153,000 federal employees cover basic expenses while they await their missed pay.
