ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Tuesday afternoon, a house fire along East Olive Street forced two residents to leave their home as the Decatur Fire Department quickly put out the blaze that started in the kitchen and caused heavy smoke and water damage with no injuries reported.  WAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Frontmen will perform at Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater on June 20 as part of the 2026 Devon season ticket package. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Dec. 12 online with prices ranging from $20 to $30 + applicable fees.  ABC 20

  • On December 9, 2025, the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation awarded a $25K grant to Macon-Piatt ROE #39 to bring Impossible Science to K-8 students via teacher development, a scholarship portal & the She Gave Women’s Giving Circle.  Now Decatur

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City is offering the free Recycle Coach app to help residents improve recycling by providing curbside collection calendars, service updates, and recycling tips. Decatur residents can download the app (available on Apple or Google Play) and access local disposal information on the City's website.  WAND

  • Illinois Commerce Commission reminds customers the winter weather rule is in effect from December 1 - March 31 to protect those using electric or gas for heat from disconnection. Eligible residents, including LIHEAP participants and low-income discount users, should contact their utility for help with overdue bills.  WAND
  • Illinois Commerce Commission reminds customers that the winter weather rule runs from December 1 through March 31, protecting residential energy users from disconnections when temperatures fall to freezing and offering deferred payment options and aid contacts for eligible cases.  Now Decatur

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Dec. 9, the Illinois Department of Public Health updated its standing order so public libraries can stock FDA-approved opioid reversal agents and train staff to help in suspected overdoses to meet the Illinois Local Library Act effective Jan. 1+ it builds on a similar order for schools.  Now Decatur
