EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Historian Mark Sorenson will present on 150 years of the library at Madden Auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 1pm to 3pm (the event was rescheduled from Dec. 13 due to weather). Light refreshments will be served at this free, public event. Now Decatur
- ➤ Decatur Public Schools board approved a $40 million property tax levy, a 4% increase lower than other options considered, to support local school funding. The measure will take effect soon and help sustain current educational services. Herald & Review
- ➤ Two area colleges have received IBT grants to strengthen education-to-career pathways for local residents. Lake Land College in Mattoon (received $60,751.04) and Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield (got $300,000) will use the funds to build clearer links with in-demand industries. WAND
- ➤ The Decatur school board voted Tuesday evening to expand its international teacher program. Decatur Public Schools will add 30 to 40 international teachers next year (2026) and approved professional development for the new educators. WAND
