Good morning, Decatur.

Central Illinois farmers are optimistic about the growing season after recent rains improved fields that began dry.

David Brown said farms in Effingham, Shelby, and Christian counties look healthy and farmers will soon spray fungicide to guard against black tar spot—preparing for harvest after the Farm Progress Show.

Sunshine Supplies for Teachers, a non-profit organization, helps over 300 central Illinois teachers get school supplies for a one-time fee of $50—reducing teachers' expenses and stress.

The group has donated nearly $140,000 in supplies to Macon and Piatt county schools and will hold a supply drive on July 18—inviting community support.

Bloomington-based State Farm said in a July 10 announcement that Illinois homeowners will see a large increase in home insurance rates starting July 18 due to rising repair costs and more frequent severe storms — auto insurance rates for new and existing policies will drop by an average of 5.7%, with some cuts up to 15%.

Kurt Younghouse is running for Macon County clerk.

He is a trustee for the Sanitary District of Decatur & the athletic director at Unity Christian School.

St. Teresa’s attorney Jerrold Stocks fired subpoenas at Heritage Behavioral Health Center, its contractors and local officials—seeking records on grant funds and city codes as the school opposes the planned move next door.

The subpoenas come after a judge rejected a safety injunction and the school filed an amended complaint on June 16 that claims the development will endanger students and harm school finances.
