  • Decatur's Farm Progress Show marks 20 years on a permanent site near Richland Community College and will begin Tuesday, Aug. 26. Local efforts led by Stu Ellis secured needed upgrades—paved roads, drainage, and infrastructure—that allow the event to rotate with an Iowa show while bringing significant business to the area.  Herald & Review

  • Owner Alex Melvin said Rural King celebrated 65 years from a single Mattoon store and is planning to expand to 150 stores in 17 states by the end of the year—reflecting a commitment to quality and rural values—while preparing for future growth in both service and community support.  Herald & Review

CRIME NEWS

  • Decatur Police arrested Issaih Flagg after his car struck two pedestrians on the 1500 block of W. Main Street around 9:49 p.m. on Thursday—one pedestrian, a 38-year-old woman, died at the scene while a 29-year-old man remains in critical condition, and Flagg now faces charges including DUI causing death and aggravated DUI offenses.  Fox Illinois

  • Principal Sarah Knuppel spoke with Byers & Co on August 22 about Pershing Early Learning Center's focus on communication to ensure every child had the tools needed to express themselves.  Now Decatur

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Decatur will start a new ride service called Decatur Moves that uses 19 special vans to pick up riders in both urban and rural zones. The planned start on August 11 was delayed—officials will announce a new launch date next week.  Herald & Review
